South English Dateline John M. (Jack) Coffman was born on February 13, 1933, near South English, IA, the son of Charles William and Cleo Belle Ruth Coffman. He graduated from Kinross High School and attended Iowa State University in Ames. Jack married Ramona Lea Weant on June 24, 1953 in Paton, IA. He served 2 years in the US Army and returned to farm in the South English community. He was married to Rose M. Brown on March 17, 1990 in Macon, MO. Jack was a member of the English River Church of the Brethren, the Keokuk County Farm Bureau and was a member of the Keota VFW. He worked as a realtor for over 15 years. His greatest joy was being with his wife and family and the changing of the seasons. Jack died at his home near South English following a brief illness on Sunday, December 12, 2004. He lived 71 years, 9 months, and 29 days. He is survived by his wife Rose of South English, IA; former wife Ramona Willits of Tucson, AZ; three sons: Kim Coffman of Houston, TX; Brent Coffman and wife Susan of South English, IA and their children Maegan, Ambrose and Ella; Bradley Coffman and wife Laurie of South English, IA and their children Spencer, Kyle, Royce and Cienna; two step children: Dennis Strasser of Hiawatha, IA and his son Nicholas; Francine Clubb and husband Terry of Hedrick, IA and their children Whitney and Cassie; three brothers: Charles (Chuck) Coffman and wife Mary Beth of Kimberling City, MO; Wayne (Shug) Coffman of South English, IA; and Robert (Bob) Coffman and wife Marilyn of Oviedo, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the English River Church of the Brethren near South English. Pastor Beth Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
