Williamsburg-John Mason Birrell was born on Monday, March 11, 1963 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Robert and Helen Anderson Birrell. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1981, graduated from Augustana College and received his Masters degree at Mary Crest College in Davenport in computer science. John was united in marriage to Ann Marie Henn in Rock Island on April 21, 1990. The couple lived in Moline, Illinois until 1996 when the moved to the Williamsburg area. John was employed as a Systems Analyst at National Computer Systems (NPS Pearson) in Iowa City. John enjoyed attending his daughters activities, being a soccer coach, spending time with his family, bowling, riding motorcycles and flying. He was a member of the Catholic Church and was a member of Eastern Iowa Pilots Association. John died Friday, December 10, 2004 in Williamsburg at the age of 41 years. He is survived by his wife Ann; a daughter Ellen (sweetheart) at home; his father, Robert Birrell of Milan, Illinois; a brother, Bob (Debby) Birrell of Milan, Illinois: a sister, Donna (Quinton) Shuck of Milan, Illinois; father and mother in law, Dave & Roneen Henn of Silvis, Illinois; three sister in laws: Doreen (Rick) Randall of Monmouth, Illinois, Bernadette (Dave) Perez of Moline, Illinois and Christine (Jim) Owens of E. Moline, Illinois and 11 nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his mother. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2004 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Fr. Joseph Roost will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2004 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the Quad Cities. A Memorial Fund has been established for Ellen's education.
