Joseph E. Beachy

Joseph E. Beachy was born August 25, 1915, in Centralia, Missouri, the son of Emmanuel and Ruhama (Guengerich) Beachy. On April 3, 1941, he was united in marriage to Pearl Stutzman in Milford, Nebraska. They lived and farmed in the Wayland community for 52 years, and have resided in Kalona since 2002. Joseph was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School and was Superintendent, served as an Elder and Trustee, and sang in the Bethel Men's Quartet for 45 years. He enjoyed volunteering with several organizations such as Mennonite Disaster Service and Crowded Closet. Joseph died on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 100 years.
Joseph is survived by 4 children Karen (Richard) Kropf , Ken (Nancy) Beachy all of Woodburn, Oregon, Roger (Joanna) Beachy of Nordland, Washington, Linda (Dale) Marner of Kalona; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Pearl, a son Wayne, 4 sister's Nettie Gingerich, Lydia Miller, Sadie Yoder, Mary Magdalene Beachy; and 5 brother's Chris, Walter, Allen, William and Rufus Beachy.


Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Pastor Don Patterson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Bethel Cemetery near Wayland. Visitation will be held from 3-8 PM on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where the family will greet friends from 3-5 and 6-8 PM. A Memorial Fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Mennonite Disaster Service. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
