Joyce Bush Nash, age 97, passed away on March 2, 2012 in Coralville, Iowa, of natural causes, after a recent decline in her health. Joyce was born on December 31, 1914 in Wellman, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Enos D. Miller and Millie Rogers Miller. She lived her early years in Wellman and developed friendships that lasted a lifetime. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1937, majoring in Speech and Art, and did graduate work at the University of Iowa and Florida State University. She taught in Rose Hill, Keota, Washington, and Burlington, Iowa, and Bainbridge, Georgia. Joyce married Charles S. Bush of Cedar Rapids on December 28, 1940. Their marriage was blessed with four children. Joyce and Chuck raised their children in Wellman, Iowa. On December 2, 1988, she married Howard Nash in Mesa, Arizona and lived in Mesa and Jefferson, Iowa. In 1993, she moved from Tallahassee, Florida to Santa Barbara, California. Joyce enjoyed the creative arts, playing the cello in school, and particularly through her lifelong passions for drawing and painting, acting and directing plays. She taught English and Art in several schools. After retirement, she continued to express her artistic talent and created many beautiful oil paintings which we all cherish, and presented an exhibit of her paintings at age 75. In that same year, she acted in a community play. She was a past member of the TTT Society, Eastern Star, WQV Women's Club, and National Education Association. She greatly valued education, with all four of her children graduating with advanced degrees, and most of all, she valued her family. She was a strong supporter of community and Christian values. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Shirley Zahn, Tallahassee, FL, Charlene (Bob) Hartzler, Coralville, IA, Charles Bush, Wellton, AZ, and Richard (Sydney) Bush, Santa Barbara, CA, six grandchildren, Derek (Marie) Zahn, Paris, France, Devin Zahn, Santa Barbara, CA, Leah (Michael) Greif, Cedar Rapids, IA, Ryan Hartzler, Arvada, CO, Brian Bush, San Francisco, CA, and Amy (Josiah) Bilow, Santa Barbara, CA, two great grandsons, Benjamin and William Greif and one great granddaughter Rachael Bilow, and many nieces and nephews and cousins Arlis Brown, Maralyn Brown Thompson and Gayl Miller Ratigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles in 1971, husband Howard in 1992, brothers Morris, Jay, and Roger Miller. Following cremation, a memorial service to honor Joyce's life will be held at a later date at the Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara, CA, where she was a member. A private committal service will follow. Memorials may be made to her church in her name. The Powell Funeral Home in Wellman, is in charge of local arrangements.
