KEOTA-June Miller, age 94, of Keota, died Friday, November 11, 2022, at Halcyon House in Washington.

            June was born November 20, 1927, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Willis and Harriet (Van Winkle) Wellington.  She grew up in the Wayland and Washington communities and graduated from Washington High School.  June then became a Registered Nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.  On January 27, 1952, she married Lyle G. Miller at the Methodist Church in Washington.  The couple lived in Keota, where June worked at the Washington County Hospital for one year and the Keokuk County Hospital in Sigourney for 37 years, retiring in 1988.  She was a member of the United Church of Faith and was active with the Church Women United.  She also belonged to the Birthday Club, Fortnightly Club and the YMCA in Washington.  June volunteered for missions in Jamaica, Antigua, Mexico, Haiti, Japan, Texas, Arkansas, Alaska, Kentucky and Louisiana.  She enjoyed playing golf and swimming.

            Survivors include a daughter: Pamela Kay (John) Ward of Anamosa; son: Marc Wayne (Kathy) Miller of Bettendorf; four grandchildren: Shawna Ward, Chera (Matt) Rebackoff, Megan (Joe) Wadsworth and Matthew Miller; three great grandchildren: Brantley, Porter and Theo Wadsworth and sisters-in-law: Edith Wellington of Washington and Sharon Wellington of Cedar Rapids.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Lyle in 1980 and four brothers: Lynn, William, Merritt and Paul Wellington.

 

            Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Pastors Cathy Nutting and Vince Homan officiating.  Burial will be at Keota Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota.

 

            A memorial fund has been established for the “Y” in Washington for memberships for kids.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for June and her family.  Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
