Kathy Jo Knapp

Marengo-Kathy Jo Knapp was born June 30, 1966, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was raised by Elmer and Naomi Krakow. Kathy graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1984. She was a press operator at Victor Manufacturing. Kathy was united in marriage to Edward Knapp on March 5, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. Kathy enjoyed weekend or day trips with friends and family, visiting her Aunt Doris weekly, bingo, attending the Iowa State Fair, flea markets and garage sales. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings fan. Kathy died on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 59 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; daughter, Stephanie (Tad) Hamilton of Glasgow, KY; son, Michael Weida of Cherokee; granddaughters, Angel and Liberty; grandsons, Hayden and Brayden; three sisters, Cindy, Vanessa and Melissa; step-mom, Sylvia; aunts, Doris and Carol; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, Verne and Florence Kurth, aunts and uncles, Maxine, Orlin, Dorothy, Bill, Lyle and Bob, and her brother-in-law David Knapp.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, with Pastor Thomas Van Hemert officiating. Burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. A general memorial fund has been established.
