CONROY- Kenneth D. Roberts was born September 6, 1940 in Iowa Township of Iowa County near Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Raymond H. And Mary Taylor Roberts. He attended Sumner #4 elementary school near Marengo, graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1958 and attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. Kenneth was united in marriage to Diana L. Jurgens on January 30, 1971 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. As a young man, he was a member of the Fairview Zippers 4-H Club (1951 - 1959) where his projects were beef and light horse classes. Kenneth was leader of the Hilton Happy Hustlers 4-H club for 9 years (1984 - 1992) and was named an Honorary 4-H member in 1992. He served as Horse Superintendent with the Iowa County Fair for 25 years. Kenneth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Williamsburg and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his family, especially his two grandsons, socializing over coffee at the Landmark and Colony Point and showing his beloved horse Dynasty's Major. Kenneth died on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the University Hospital in Iowa City after a brief illness at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 25 days. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Diana; two sons: Tim Roberts and wife Cara of Williamsburg and Kevin Roberts of Manhattan, Kansas; a daughter Kay Roberts of Conroy; two grandsons, Austin Roberts and Jacob Barnes; his mother Mary E. Roberts of Marengo; a brother Don Roberts and wife Karen of Cedar Falls; a brother-in-law LaVern Jurgen and wife Mary of Vista, California; five nephews and three nieces. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father Raymond in 1977; father-in-law and mother-in-law Kenneth(1980) and Gladys(2001) Jurgens; two nephews: Kenneth Jurgens (1980) and Leon Jurgens (1969) and a sister-in-law Donna Roberts in 1992. Funeral services are set for 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamsburg with Fr. Joseph Roost officiating. Burial is in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2:00 - 8:00 pm with a Wake Service at 6:00 pm followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Memorial fund is for the American Diabetes Association and the Kidney Transplant Unit at the University of Iowa.
