Williamsburg-Kenneth Lee Stangland was born January 10, 1950 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Edward and Edna Doehrmann Stangland. He was baptized on January 12, 1950 and confirmed March 22, 1964. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1968. He joined the United States Marines in 1968 and served in the Vietnam War until 1970. Kenneth owned and operated Stangland Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends. Being an uncle was very important to Kenneth, his nieces and nephews were very special to him. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 and the American Legion. Kenneth died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City of cancer at the age of 55 years 2 months and 26 days. He is survived by his mother: Edna Stangland of Williamsburg; two sisters: Carol (David) Green of Waubeek and Sandra (Robert) Strouse of Bedford, Texas; four nieces: Sumer Myers, Ansara Kula, Veriah Myers and Erika Myers; a nephew: Tyler Strouse; great niece: Kaylin Myers-Kula and a great nephew: Keegan Kula. Kenneth was preceded in death by his father. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Carl Cloeter will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg where there will be a VFW service at 7:00 p.m.. Burial will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites by Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 and Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. Memorials are for the VA Medical Center, U of I Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Rifle Association.
