Kenton Miller

October 17, 1948 — March 10, 2024

Iowa City

Iowa City- Kenton Wayne Miller, Iowa City, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, March 10, 2024 of complications from his 16 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born October 17, 1948, in Iowa City to Wayne and Audrey (Brenneman) Miller, of rural Wellman. Kenton attended Oakland School and graduated from Iowa Mennonite School (Hillcrest Academy). He then attended Hesston College in Kansas.

On November 29, 1969, Kenton married Barbara Kinsinger at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. They lived in Lebanon, Oregon until September 1972 when they returned to Iowa where Kenton farmed, and they welcomed sons Lucas and Andrew. Kenton also worked for ProGrower Solutions until 2011 and sold promotional advertising with Western Associates.

Kenton was a hard worker yet found time to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals. He also liked history and genealogy and liked knowing who was related to whom. While a member of West Union Mennonite church, Kenton served as a Sunday school teacher, youth group sponsor, and an usher. Kenton is survived by his wife Barb, son Lucas (Albuquerque), siblings Dennis (Rosie) Miller and Laurel (Sid) Rowland of Wellman, and special cousin/friend Brian Hooley (Wellman). He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Andrew.

There are no definite plans for a service at this time as Kenton didn’t want a traditional funeral or a fuss being made about him. A visitation time will be held Friday, April 5 from 4 – 6 PM at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona, IA. A family time of celebration of his life is planned for the immediate future. Memorial donations will be shared with the Parkinson’s Association and the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center.
