L. Ruth Brower

Waterloo- Leta Ruth Brower was born September 9, 1927, in South English, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur Harlan & Gertrude Ione (Magoon) Ferris. She graduated from South English High School in 1945 and went on to receive her B.A. from UNI in 1952. On August 16, 1952, Ruth was united in marriage to Kenneth J Brower in Aplington, Iowa. They lived in Waterloo for over 50 years. She was a kindergarten teacher in Waterloo for 21 years and the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Rembrandt for 4 years. Ruth was a member of the First Congregational Church in Waterloo, the I.S.E.A. and the N.E.A. She enjoyed swimming at the YWCA and taking yoga lessons. Ruth died on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the New Aldaya Nursing Home in Cedar Falls, at the age of 98 years.

She is survived by two nieces Jean Bartholomew and Barbara Eshak; a cousin Jerry Hauberschild; and two special friends Rhonda Lauer and Cindy Frederick. She was preceded by her parents; husband of 66 years; and a sister Marie Ferris.
