Larry G Gerst

Newhall- Larry Gene Gerst was born July 15, 1943 in Burlington, IA, the son Lawrence and Betty (Schneider) Gerst. Larry graduated from Danville class of 1961. Larry was united in marriage to Margaret “Peggy” Milling on March 24, 1972 in Marengo, Iowa. Larry worked at Amana from 1962-1999 as the Human Resources Manager and then Dunlop in Huntsville, AL from 2000 until his retirement in 2005. Larry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo, where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, hunting, and spending time with his family. He kept everyone entertained with his sharp wit. Larry died on Monday, June 22, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; a son, Scott Gerst of Colorado Springs, CO; two daughters, Shelly Gerst-Bruder (Craig Bruder) of Davidson, NC and Stephanie Gerst of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren, Samantha (Ben) Ramsaur, Cassidy (Jake) Cimolino, and Sophia Alfieri, two great-grandchildren, Harrison and Bianca Cimolino; a sister, Phyllis Cox of New London, IA; and three brothers, Jim (Margie) Gerst of Burlington, Brian (LeeAnn) Gerst of South Hills, VA and Neil (Cassie) Gerst of New London, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Eric Gerst.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, June 26, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marengo. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established.
