LaVonne Faye Hoodjer Chapman, 83, formerly of Brooklyn, Iowa, died on August 6, 2024 at Azria Health rehabilitation center in Mediapolis, Iowa after an extended illness. A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 19, 2024 at New Beginnings Church, with Rev. Josh Gerard officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn at a later date. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.
LaVonne was born September 5, 1940 to Lester and Pearl (Rottink) Hoodjer in the garden tomato patch at their home in Shellrock, Iowa. Growing up she raised ponies with her dad, loved Roy Rogers, and was an avid reader. LaVonne married Allen Chapman on March 17, 1961. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed crocheting, circle words, and helping in the community through the Brooklyn Ruritans.
LaVonne is survived in death by two daughters, Ellen Chapman of Knoxville, Iowa and Dori (David) Harvey of Mediapolis, Iowa; step-daughter Jessie Armstrong of Conroe, Texas; two sisters, Pat Taylor of Sumner, Iowa and Norma Bell of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Matthew Harvey, Megan Chapman, Mel (Kace) Skyveldt, and Aubrey Bothwell; five step-grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Allen (1998), her daughter, Sondra Kaye Chapman (2014), a step-daughter Sherry Chapman (2024), two brothers, and a granddaughter.
