Williamsburg-Leighton John Jones was born October 31, 1924 near Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Elias and Sadie Evans Jones. He attended school in the Williamsburg area. Leighton served in the Army from 1949 to 1950. He was united in marriage to M. Jeanne Kinzler on June 4, 1950 at the Ohio Methodist Church near Ladora. Leighton founded and operated Jones Fertilizer (a business serving the agricultural community) which later became J & S Farm Supply, as he partnered with Dick Schaefer. Upon Dick's retirement Leighton's son, Tim joined him in the business. He was dedicated to the farming industry and his business, he would spend long hours at the office making sure all his employees returned from the road or field for the night. He was actively involved as a youth, a father and grandfather in 4-H and FFA. Leighton and his family faithfully attended the Faith Baptist Church in Iowa City. Leighton passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at his home with his family by his bed side after a long battle with cancer at the age of 80 years and 24 days. Leighton is survived by his wife Jeanne of 54 years; four children: Bob (Sue) Jones of Williamsburg, Jim ( Bonnie) Jones of Greeley Colorado, Carol (Steven) Celarier of Cedar Rapids and Tim (Kathy) Jones of Williamsburg; thirteen grandchildren: Jason (Kelly) Jones, Jenni ( Josh) Render, Jamie Jones, Jon Jones, Jodie (Rohn) Baumgartner, Mandy (Neil) Hinrichsen, Jeremy (Stefanie) Jones, Danielle Celarier, David Celarier, Sara Jones, Allison Jones, Timothy Jones and Melissa Jones; twelve great grandchildren: Leighton, K.C. Jeanne and Jaly Jones, Lily Render, Amanda, Justin and Cody Baumgartner, Elias and Egann Hinrichsen, Chance, Jaden and Treven Jones; a brother: Owen (Juanita) Jones of Williamsburg; two sisters: Dorothy Thorpe of Eddyville and Alice Prince of Williamsburg and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: Norman Lee Jones and a sister: Ruth Phillips.
