Lela M. Goodwin was born March 11, 1909 in Tilton, Iowa the daughter of Eli and Sadie (Moore) Horn. She graduated for Gibson High School in 1931. On January 14, 1931 she was united in marriage to Irvin Goodwin in Chillothe, Iowa. They moved to Wellman in 1931 where they farmed for many years. Lela was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star, Garden Club, and Ladies Rural Club. Lela died on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a lengthy illness at the age of 97 years. Lela is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1984, 2 brothers Raymond and Henry Horn, and a sister Belva McMains. In honor of Lela's wish there will be no visitation and her body was cremated. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2006 at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Rev. Rich Pippert. A Memorial Fund has been established for the Parkview Manor Chaplaincy Program. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman is in charge of the arrangements.
