SIGOURNEY-Leo N. Yaeger, age 91, of Sigourney, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at the Sigourney Care Center following a lengthy illness. Leo was born May 6, 1913, in Geneva, Nebraska, to William A. and Kathrine Anne (Gergen) Yaeger. In 1938 he moved to the Sigourney area. On April 14, 1942, he married Henrietta Cassens in Lancaster, Missouri. Leo served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He farmed and was the caretaker of Pleasant Grove Cemetery for 28 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney and a life member of the Lacey Kerr V.F.W. Post #2308. Leo enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching traffic go by on the highway and gardening. Survivors include his wife: Henrietta of Sigourney; one son: James Yaeger of Indianola; one daughter: Shirley Conkity and husband Wayne of Harper; six grandchildren: Melissa Bunch, Mike Appleby and wife Laura, Nikki Pfantz, Angela Freese and husband Toby, Jeremy Conkity and Clinton Conkity; three great grandsons: Andrew Pfantz, Devin Pfantz and Zachary Appleby, two sisters: Dorothy Wellens and Doris Sangren both of Minnesota and two sisters-in-law: Margie Yaeger and Emily Yaeger both of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son: Lee Edwin Yaeger, three brothers and two sisters. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with Rev. Philip Ryan officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney with military rites by the Sigourney American Legion Post 19 and Lacey Kerr V.F.W. Post #2308. Visitation will be Monday, January 31, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney, where there will be a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for St. Mary Catholic Church or Hospice of Keokuk County. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
