Leona "Onie" Claudine Hudson was born on August 21, 1932, near Richland, IA, the daughter of Claude R. and Viola C. Hobbs Thompson. She attended school in Richland and Keota. On June 10, 1954, Onie was united in marriage to Merlin Eugene Hudson in Sigourney, IA. They lived most of their married life in Keokuk County and in Keswick, IA, since November 1971. Onie had attended Hilltop Chapel in What Cheer. Her husband preceded her in death in March 1991. Onie died at her home in Keswick following a short illness on Sunday, October 17, 2004. She lived 72 years, 1 month and 26 days. She is survived by two daughters: Peggy Woodsmall & Dennis of Keswick, IA and Brenda Hudson & Roger of Deep River, IA; a son Ron Hudson & Linda of Lacey, IA; 2 grandchildren: Jamie Hartwig of Keswick and Stacy Gillam & Shaun of What Cheer, IA; 5 great grandchildren: Jacob, Ashley, Alana, Dillon and David; a brother Tom Thompson & Sandy of Keota, IA, sisters Mary Wilkens, and Peggy Miller & Ron all of North English, IA; and a half brother Roger Thompson of Medford, OR. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother Edward Thompson. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the Piersol Cemetery east of North English with Rev. John DeBoef officiating. Her body was cremated and there will be no visitation. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service of North English is in charge of arrangements.
