KEOTA-Leonard N. Greiner, age 93, of Keota, died Tuesday, November 23, 2004, at the Maplewood Manor in Keota, from complications of pneumonia. Leonard was born May 6, 1911, in Keota, the son of Michael A. and Caroline (Conrad) Greiner and received his education at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Clear Creek. On April 17, 1934, he married Mary Margaret Woerdeman at St. John's Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. She passed away On April 25, 1982. On September 18, 1983, he married Hazel Grimm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Keota. She passed away on January 20, 2000. Leonard was a farmer and lived in the Keota area his entire life. He became a resident of Maplewood Manor in December of 2003. Leonard was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Survivors include six children: Jeanette Vittetoe and husband Alvin of Washington, Paul and wife Nadine of Keota, Veronica Menke and husband Paul of Keota, Marlene Clerkin and husband Patrick of West Des Moines, Henry Greiner and wife Anne of Palo Alto, CA and Marlin Greiner of Keota; 27 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; two sisters: Sr. Licinia Greiner and Sr. Marmenia Greiner both of Campbellsport, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives; one daughter-in-law: Bonnie Greiner; one grandson: Doug Vittetoe; one great grandson: Kolton Kingsbury; six brothers: William, Charles, John, Mike, Albert and Bernard; three sisters: Margaret Sieren, Rena Peiffer and Anna Sieren. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2004, at the Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be at the St. Mary Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2004, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota, where there will be a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Maplewood Manor, Hospice of Washington County and Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
