Lloyd E. Olson, age 87, of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 30, 2024, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2024, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Rev. Cephas Davis and Rev. John Dodds will officiate. Masonic service to follow. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Memorials may be contributed to Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, East Poweshiek Ambulance or the Poweshiek County Fair.
Left to cherish Lloyd’s memory, is his wife of 66 years, Jo Ann; four children, Marc (Lori) Olson, of Brooklyn, Mindy Huls, of Malcom, Matthew (Lori) Olson, of Keota, and Molly (Tom) Judy, of Ottumwa; a daughter-in-law, Wendy Olson, of St. Ignatius, MT; 13 grandchildren, Justin (Sheena) Huls, Jerica (Kyle) Latcham, Jade (Adam) Witte, Alyssa (Nate) Kahl, Nicholas (Alex) Olson, Kyla (Ethan) McCabe, Megan (Zach) Weilbacher, Cole (Kayla) Olson, Lane Judy, Kane Olson, Lex Judy, Lute Judy and Lydia Judy; 13 great-grandchildren, Trenten Huls, Brayson Latcham, Tanner Huls, Bryer Latcham, Roslinn Kahl, Revely Kahl, Hudson McCabe, Stetson Witte, Ryker Kahl, Stockton Witte, Hattie Olson, Bodey Weilbacher, Sadie Olson and one on the way soon, baby girl Weilbacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mack in 2007, a sister, Ruth (Harvey) Tindle, a sister, Norma (Jim) Sherwood and a brother, Gerald (Ella Mae) Olson.
Lloyd Eugene Olson was born on the family farm, southeast of Malcom, on August 31, 1936. He is the son of Clarence and Grace (Hall) Olson. Lloyd graduated in 1955 from Brooklyn High School. Following graduation, he farmed until 1976, raising crops and cattle. Lloyd was united in marriage to Jo Ann Billick on August 18, 1957, at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn.
Alongside farming, Lloyd was employed at various places in the area; he was the regional manager for Moorman’s Feed Company, the area feed division for Malcom Co-op, Rohrer, and reading meters for TIP and PWA. He enjoyed pheasant hunting, having coffee with the guys on Thursdays, woodworking and gardening. Lloyd stayed involved with the cattle industry, by attending cattle and livestock shows. He was a member of the Poweshiek County Ag Extension, Poweshiek County Pork Producers and Poweshiek Cattleman. Lloyd was a 60+ year member of Grace United Methodist Church serving different positions within the church. He was also a member of the Malcom Masonic Lodge #174. Lloyd held several board positions, including the Brooklyn Housing and Brooklyn Cemetery Board. He was a 4-H leader for the Lively Livestock. In 1994, Lloyd and Jo Ann moved from the farm into Brooklyn. Together they enjoyed traveling, visiting Alaska, Hawaii and Norway, going dancing and following their grandchildren to the many events they were involved in. In the later years, they enjoyed going to plays, driving around and attending many county and state fairs. Above all else, Lloyd dearly loved his family and spending time with all of them.
