Lorene Leichty

Lorene E. Leichty, 73, of Wayland, IA, died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Parkview Home in Wayland. Visitation will be held beginning after 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 5th, at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church in Wayland, IA, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 6th, at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Pastor Nathan Luitjens officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Parkview Home. Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant is in charge of arrangements. Born January 17, 1937, in Wayland, IA, Lorene Evelyn was the daughter of Simon and Lavina Marie Roth Leichty. She was a graduate of Iowa Mennonite School. For many years Lorene worked as a nurse's aid at the Parkview Home, and retired from there in 2005. A member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, Lorene taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Lorene loved listening to Southern Gospel Music and spending time with her family. Survivors include three sisters, Rachel Leichty of Winslow, AZ, Anna Lewis of Atalissa, IA, and Phyllis ( Emil ) Schlatter of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and five brothers, Orlin (Esther) Leichty of Washington, IA, Russell (Hazel) Leichty of Ft. Wayne, IN, Roger (Evie) Leichty of Harrisonburg, VA, Kenneth (Kathy) Leichty of Wellman, IA, and Wilbur (Deb) Leichty of Wayland, IA; a brother-in-law, Gerald Marner of Kalona, IA She is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Along with her parents, Lorene was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Marner; a brother-in-law, George Lewis and three great nephews.
