Louis Eugene Wauters, age 82, of Altoona, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the Altoona Nursing and Rehab Center. Memorial service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with Father Corey Close officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn, with military honors. There will not be a visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Brooklyn Fire Department in Louis’s name.
Louis is survived by his children Donald (Shelley) Wauters, of Altoona, Duane Wauters, of Des Moines, Daniel Wauters, of Newton and Diane Wauters, of Des Moines; a brother John (Joyce) Wauters, of Burlington; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother Donald, a sister Helen and a daughter Denise is 2006.
Louis Wauters was born January 29, 1936, in rural Hartwick, the son of John August and Marie (Mayme) Catherine (Dolash) Wauters. He received his education in the country schools and attended 9 th grade at St. John’s in Victor. Louis joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1953 and served in Korea. He worked at Amana Refrigeration for 15 years. In 1988, Louis moved to Des Moines and started working at his son’s business, Priority Express. He enjoyed going to the casino and going to races in Brooklyn to watch his son race. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Louis especially loved attending his kids’ and grandkids’ activities.
