Lynn R. Brenneman, age 97, of Kalona, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026 at Pleasantview in Kalona, Iowa. Lynn Brenneman was born October 11, 1928, near Wellman, Iowa. He was the son of Edward and Fannie (Hochstetler) Brenneman. He attended grade school at Franklin School in rural Wellman, and then on to Wellman High School, where as a Freshman he played on the Wellman High School Wildcats varsity basketball team, before attending Iowa Mennonite School in its opening school year of 1945-1946. Lynn went on to attend Hesston Academy in Hesston, Kansas where he met Mary Conrad, a student from Oregon. Lynn and Mary were married March 25, 1951 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, Kalona, Iowa and farmed in Johnson County, Iowa. Lynn was also a long time bus driver for Washington Township and Mid-Prairie schools. At his retirement from farming, he and Mary moved to Kalona, Iowa.
They are the parents of James (Dianne) Brenneman of Iowa City, Michael (Kristen) Brenneman of Kalona, Pamela (Doug) Stoltzfus of Parnell, Steven (Tammy) Brenneman of Chicago, Illinois, and Sara Brenneman of Iowa City. Also surviving are grandchildren, David Brenneman, Gretchen Yoder, Allison Goertz, Jill Hemachandra, Kara Porter, Laura Jones, Conrad Brenneman, Edward Brenneman, Mary Brenneman, and Natalie Meganathan; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary on December 30, 2013, his parents, his brother Harold Brenneman and sister-in-law Marie Brenneman, son-in-law Francis Meganathan and grandson Peter Brenneman.
Lynn enjoyed the farm, Hawkeye sports, the Chicago Cubs, card games, and activities with his family. In his youth he became a member of the Mennonite Church and continued throughout his life.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Kalona Mennonite Church. Visitation at 9:30 a.m. until service time. A private burial will be at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Cemetery in rural Wellman, Iowa later that afternoon. Memorial funds may be directed to the Mary and Lynn Brenneman scholarship fund at Hillcrest Academy. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
