PARNELL-Marie Britten, age 98, of Kalona, died Thursday, March 8, 2012, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona. Marie was born December 12, 1913, in rural Keota, to Herman and Mathilda (Kracht) Luers. She graduated from Keota High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. On August 10, 1942, she married Raymond Britten in San Luis Obispo, California. The couple lived and farmed in southeast Iowa for many years. Marie was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, sewing, the outdoors and her family. Survivors include her husband: Raymond of Parnell; two daughters: Linda Grice of South English and Ethel (Gordon) Doehrmann of Williamsburg; eight grandchildren: Thomas (Dr. Jennifer) Grice, Matthew Grice, Dr. Elizabeth (Mike Cornelius) Grice, Jennifer (Vince) Britten Dvorak, Shelby (LeDawne) Britten, Ryan Britten, Tracy (Chris) Doehrmann Bond and Nikki (Corey) Doehrmann Stackhouse; ten great grandchildren: Timothy and Reid Grice, Elias and Mylee Dvorak, Ethan Britten, Lelaina and Alexandra Olson, Jase and Tristan Bond, Addyson Stackhouse and a sister: Pearl Mound of Keota. She was preceded in death by her parents; son: Ethan; two sisters: Louise Giles and Alma Turnipseed and two brothers: Albert and Carl Luers. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, and from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Marie and her family.
