Marie Lou Dovenspike, 83, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at Arbor Court. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 20th at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church. Born December 29, 1927 in Wilson, MI, Marie was the daughter of William Albert and Emmaline (Brownell) Mitts. Living in Mt. Pleasant since her youth, Marie graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1947. On May 13, 1950 she married Orval Dean Dovenspike in Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death August 3, 1992. For ten years Marie worked in housekeeping at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant. Always a homemaker, Marie especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Marie was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary and the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, word finds, crossword puzzles, and her dog, Ziggy. Marie was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Basketball fan. Survivors include a son, Steve Dovenspike; a daughter, Deb (Glenn) Coleman, all of Mt. Pleasant; two sisters, Virginia Munyon of Mt. Pleasant, and Viola House of Verona, WI; four grandchildren, Marc (Melissa) Coleman, Misty (Mark) Burns, Angie McCall, and Michael Dovenspike; six great-grandchildren, Kylee and Kelsey Coleman, Cole and Cayla Burns, Brody McCall and Abby Benge; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; one sister, Lorene Gapen; and one brother, Carl "Sonny" Mitts.
