Marie Elizabeth Griess

Marie Elizabeth Griess, age 57 of Amana, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on April 15, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the Amana Cemetery, with Elder Alan Trumpold officiating. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at the Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana, Iowa. In lieu flowers, memorials may be contributed to the Safe Haven of Iowa County or the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marie is survived by her fiancée Dean Kinzenbaw Jr. of Marengo; a daughter Taylor Griess Sherman and fiancée, Gerald Long; two grandchildren Chloe and Caelan Long of Middle Amana; a brother Lewis of Cedar Rapids; a sister Joanne of Amana; a nephew Connor Griess of North Liberty; a sister-in-law Julie Griess of Williamsburg; and two cats Tilly and Jack. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother John in 2017 and a nephew Thaddius Logan Griess.

Marie Elizabeth Griess was born April 4, 1961 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Theo and Betty Lou Haas Griess. She graduated from the Amana High School in 1979 and was a great athlete. Marie was an avid sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bears. She was currently employed by the Amana Meat Shop in Amana and was a lifelong member of the Amana Church Society.

Marie was a person of not wanting, but rather of giving, especially when it came to her daughter and grandchildren. She was happy and had a very positive attitude that carried on throughout her illness. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

The family would like to especially thank Iowa City Hospice, Paula Welsh, Dean Kinzenbaw Jr., Loves for Marie benefit and all the others from “Team Marie” for all of their care and support for Marie during her illness.
