Vinton-Marilea Jean Schmidt died Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Vinton Lutheran Home in Vinton at the age of 88 years.
Marilea was born February 9, 1938 in Williamsburg, the daughter of Lee and Dorothy (Hensen) Querl. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1956. Marilea was united in marriage to Melvin Schmidt on September 1, 1956, in Williamsburg. To this union they were blessed with two daughters. Marilea started her career at Amana Refrigeration. After her daughters were born she became the Williamsburg Community School Board secretary until 1980. They moved to Vinton in 1980. She then worked at the Duane Arnold Nuclear and Power Plant until her retirement. She enjoyed continuing her working part time at Wallet Works at the Tanger Mall, Mel’s Can Redemption Center and Fast Stop in Vinton. Marilea enjoyed playing Bridge, organizing Bridge tournament’s, puzzles, read books, traveling and genealogy. Her greatest joy was her granddaughter Rachel and going to her events. She also had a love for Pugs including her gandpuppies.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 17, 2026, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Powell Funeral Home is caring for Marilea and her family.
She is survived by her daughters: Nancie (Tony) Patterson of Aplington and Julie (Donald) Danielson of Van Horne; a granddaughter: Rachel (Jeremy) Kuehl of Jefferson and a nephew: Jerry “Jake” (Jane) Sanders and family of North English. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Janice Sanders.
