Mark McDonough

Mark Thomas McDonough was born on June 11, 1961, in Marengo, Iowa, the first son of Thomas and Patricia (Hawks) McDonough.  He graduated in 1979 from Williamsburg High School.  After attending Ellsworth Community College, Mark began his career working with teens troubled with both mental and behavioral difficulties at the Brainerd State Hospital in Brainerd, MN, and Four Oaks in Cedar Rapids, IA.  His most recent career was working as a photographer for the Crosby-Ironton Courier. After an accident left him unable to continue working as a photographer, he lived in several group homes for brain-injured adults in Wisconsin and Iowa.  No matter where he was, he shared his love for his family, his Irish heritage, classic rock, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Mark  passed away on August 24, 2023, at Azria Health Rose Vista in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 62 years.  

He is survived by a son, Jack; a daughter, Justina Ihde (Nathan); brothers Matthew (Julie) and John; nephews, Luke (Chelsea), Cole, Drew, and Brock McDonough; and nieces Breana (Austin) Seeger and Allison (fiancé Dom); grandchildren Milo, Bodhi, Wylie Ihde; great-nephews Kip McDonough; Rowan Seeger; and great-nieces Maeve Seeger; Kinley McDonough.

Mark was preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Patricia McDonough.

A Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 am Monday, August 28, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be held 3:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday, August 27 at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Williamsburg. The family requests that attendees wear their favorite casual Hawkeye attire or black and gold for his service on Monday. Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for Mark and his family.
