Mark Wayne Wofford, age 67, of North English, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Mark was born March 13, 1958, in Roswell, New Mexico, the son of Durwood and Geraldine (Kinzie) Wofford. He graduated from Manzano High School in New Mexico. Mark received Secondary Education degree in 1982; and his Master of Education Degree in 1983 from Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana. He met his wife, Gae, at college in 1978. They were married in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, on December 22, 1979.
Throughout his 28 years in education starting in 1983, Mark taught high school math and history at Christian schools in North Long Beach, California for 11 years, Tuscaloosa, AL. for 7 years; and Madison, TN. for 8 years. He also coached boys and girls basketball, girls softball, and girls volleyball.
Mark retired from teaching in 2011 and moved to North English, IA. to be close to his children and grandchildren. He worked for Walmart for the past nine years as an over-the-road truck driver.
He is remembered by his students as a dedicated and supportive teacher with a witty sense of humor, by his co-workers as a hard worker and loyal friend, and by his children and grandchildren as a loving dad and pop-pop.
Mark is survived by his wife, Gae (Young) Wofford; daughter, Jena Caster and husband Luke; son, Jon Mark Wofford; seven grandchildren - Kaylynn, Ashton, Canton, Layton, Evelynn, Hadlynn, and Teslynn Caster, all of North English, IA.; mother-in-law, Florence Young of Perkasie, PA., two brother-in-laws - J. David Young and wife, Heather of Highlands Ranch, CO.; Timothy Young and wife Kathi of Richlandtown, PA., sister-in-law, Gretchen Young of Ankeny, IA., three sisters - Nora Jean, Lanore, and Carol Wofford of Albuquerque, N.M., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Durwood Wofford of Lubbock, TX. and Geraldine Wofford of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother, Ricky Wofford of Seville, OH.; father-in-law, John Young of Perkasie, PA; and brother-in-law, Mark Young of Eyota, MN.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the North English Christian Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, from 4-7 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in North English.
