Mary Ann Boney was born on May 23, 1954. She passed away on April 9, 2026. She pursued God all of her life. She loved her family and friends. She was a synchronized swimmer, golfer, musician (cello and piano), and always pursued ways of learning and becoming more. She graduated from Boone High School in 1972 with a 4.0 grade point average and was prom queen. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1976 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics and was the president of her sorority Alpha Chi Omega.
She moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1976 with her family. She worked at Burr, Morris, and Pardoe realty firm and then moved to Los Angeles, California, to work for her church’s publishing company in 1979. She wanted to work in every department to learn what they did and then later was placed in charge of all departments.
She married David Boney in 1987, and they moved to Kalona, Iowa, and built a home. When David’s construction company was hired to build a home in Honolulu, Hawaii, they moved there until the work was completed. She loved the Hawaiian culture and people.
She pursued more education with Shiloh University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master of Divinity degree in June 2021, while working full time at the University of Iowa as a Patient Access Specialist. She worked at the University of Iowa from 2004 to 2026. She had an impact on all those she met and will be missed forever by those who love her.
She had a rare gift of uncovering other people’s talents and gifts and created opportunities for them to function in their gifts. She was always ready to lend a hand and valued relationships over material things. She loved cooking and going to concerts. Recently, she and her sister attended the Andrea Bocelli concert in Minneapolis and the Yo-Yo Ma concert at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City.
She was a shining light in our family and was a pillar of strength and beacon of hope for all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Helen Thorngren Statton in July 2000, and her father, Donald (Dan) M. Statton in April 2004.
She is survived by two sisters, Jean Marie Statton O’Donovan and Sarah Jane Raba (Bob Raba), and two nieces, Erika Destin Raba and Elizabeth Jane Raba.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Mary and her family.
