Mary Ehret

March 19, 1935 — August 22, 2020

SIGOURNEY-Mary Ehret, age 85, of Sigourney, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 22, 2020.
Mary was born March 19, 1935, to Ruth (May) and Orville Heaton of Webster, Iowa. She grew up in Webster and was a proud graduate of Webster High School. She never missed a class reunion. Mary was joined in marriage to Robert (Bob) Ehret, of Gibson, Iowa, on June 2, 1954. They farmed near Gibson for their entire married life, until health problems forced Bob to retire. Mary was a loving caregiver to Bob during his years on kidney dialysis, driving him to Iowa City for treatment three times a week for five years. She was a wonderful mother to Susan Ehret Rooney and to Greg Ehret, and a loving grandmother to Christopher Rooney and Megan (Rooney) Berger and Matthew and Ashley Ehret. She was proud to be a great-grandma to Tyler Rooney and Seth Berger and was looking forward to the arrival of a new great grandchild, born two weeks after her passing.
Family meant everything to Mary and she always made sure they all knew how much she loved them. She loved her flower garden and baking, and her freezer was always stocked with cookies for everyone. Mary was a member of the Gibson Presbyterian Church and was very involved in the community. She was always willing to help wherever needed and is described, by all who knew her, as a very sweet, caring person.
She moved off the farm, to Sigourney, Iowa, several years after Bob's death and enjoyed making new friends and the convenience of living "in town." The flower garden in her front yard was much admired.
Survivors include two children: Susan (Tom) Rooney of Woodbury, Minnesota and Greg (Sherry) Ehret of Gibson; four grandchildren: Chris Rooney of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Megan (Sam) Berger of Apple Valley, Minnesota, Matthew and Ashley Ehret of Oskaloosa; three great grandchildren: Tyler Rooney, Seth Berger and Colin Berger and sister: Pauline Caughlan of Crystal Lake, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and Orville Heaton; husband Bob and her brother: William Heaton.
