Mary Katherine Brenneman was born March 11, 1930, in Tangent, Oregon, the daughter of Orie M. and Eda (Zehr) Conrad. She graduated from the Hesston Academy and attended Goshen College. On March 25, 1951, she married Lynn Brenneman at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, near Kalona. Mary was a secretary for Washington Township School for 8 years, IMS for 21 years and the Kalona Chamber of Commerce from 1995- 2010. Mary was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church, where she was active in WMSC and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed volunteering at the World Market Place. Mary touched many lives with her energy and her interactions with everyone she met. Mary died on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Pleasantview Home, Kalona, at the age of 83 years. Mary is survived by her husband Lynn of Kalona, her children, James (Dianne) Brenneman of Iowa City, Michael (Kristen) Brenneman of Kalona, Pamela (Doug) Stoltzfus of Parnell, Steven (Tammy) Brenneman of River Forrest, IL Sara (Francis) Meganathan of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 11 grandchildren, David Brenneman, Gretchen Yoder, Peter Brenneman, Jill Hemachandra, Allison Goertz, Kara Porter, Laura Stoltzfus, Conrad Brenneman, Edward Brenneman, Mary Brenneman, Natalie Meganathan; 3 great grandchildren, 5 siblings, Verna Birky of Goshen, IN, Lucille Hochstetler of Hesston, KS, Mark Conrad of San Diego, CA, James Conrad of PerKasie, PA and Lois Kauffman of Collegeville, MN. She was preceded by her parents and brothers Ruben Conrad, Amos Conrad, and Clarence Conrad. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday January 4, 2014 at the Kalona Mennonite Church, Kalona. Rev Scott Swartzendruber will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-7 PM on Friday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home, Kalona. Memorials may be given to Iowa Mennonite School.
