North English – Mary Ann McKenna, 85, of North English, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
Mary Ann was born on March 3, 1940, in Armah, near North English, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Francis and Agnes (Greene) O’Rourke. She graduated from English Valleys High School with the Class of 1958. Following high school, she attended cosmetology school and went on to enjoy a long and dedicated career as a hairdresser in North English for 52 years, serving generations of families in the community.
On February 24, 1962, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Thomas “Pat” McKenna at Armah Catholic Church near North English. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English, where she served on the Altar & Rosary Society and the parish council. Mary Ann was also a founding member of the North English JCettes.
In her free time, Mary Ann treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, as well as the English Valleys girls basketball teams throughout the years. She looked forward to changing her holiday decorations with each season, paying close attention to Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day.
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Marek McKenna of North Carolina; son-in-law, Randy (Cindy Albert) Weber of Harper; two grandchildren, Kelsey (Jay) DeWeese of Deep River and Ryan (Emily) Weber of Harper; six great-grandchildren, Ava DeWeese, Riley Weber, Bryer DeWeese, Ella Weber, Karlie Weber, and Maycie Weber; two sisters, Eileen (Tom) Rieger and Sheila (Rich) Souder; two sisters-in-law, Dianne O’Rourke and Jan O’Rourke; two brothers-in-law, Hugh McKenna and John Phillip; as well as several others she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pat; her daughter, Karla Weber; two sisters, Rita McKenna and Geri Phillip; and two brothers, Pat O’Rourke and James O’Rourke.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday February 2, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Burial will follow in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time. There will be a Rosary Service at 8:45 am. Memorials may be given to the North English QRS and the English Valley Care Center.
