Mary V. Baumgartner, age 82, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Memorial Service: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 8, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until service time on Tuesday. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rose Haven Nursing Home in her name. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mary is survived by her children, Sheila Mason (Steve) of Palo, and William Baumgartner (Blossom) of Fairfax; three grandchildren, Travis Von Ahsen of Davenport, Dustin Mason (Danielle) of LaPorte City, and Jeffrey Mason of Palo; three great-grandchildren, August, Oliver, and Evelyn Mason of LaPorte City. Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph Weldon (Emily) of Iowa City and Jim Weldon of New York, NY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred, her daughter Bonnie Von Ahsen, two sisters, Marilyn Smith and Zelda Clubb, and a brother Bruce Weldon.
Mary Viola Weldon was born May 17, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Bruce and Viola Hite Weldon. She attended the Marengo schools. Mary was united in marriage to Fred Baumgartner on March 11, 1952 in Galesburg, Illinois. She was employed over the years with various businesses in the Amana Colonies.
Mary loved to thread a needle and sew. You could find her out on the porch sewing quilts, embroidering tea towels, knitting mittens, and sewing together Amana Bonnets to sell in any Amana gift shop. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed the camping trips with Oma and Opa.
