Maurine Dunbar

Maurine Dunbar, 93 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Keota and Fairfield, IA, died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 27th from 12:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Burial will be in the Keota Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the music department at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. The daughter of Henry Fulton and Clara Ann (Baumert) Sheets, Maurine Ethel was born on May 6, 1917, in Keota, IA. She attended Keota High School graduating in 1935. On August 22, 1938, she married Dale Burton Dunbar. He preceded her in death on June 3, 1993. The Dunbars farmed in the Fairfield area for twenty years. Upon retirement they moved to Mt. Pleasant. Maurine was a homemaker giving her full attention to the needs of her family. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. Being very musically inclined, Maurine played the piano and gave piano lessons. Survivors include three sons, Dennis (Betty) Dunbar of Muscatine, IA, Lyle (Ann) Dunbar of Solana Beach, CA, and John (Angie) Dunbar of Fairfield, IA; two daughters, Judith (Ben) Bower of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Linda Applebee of Clovis, CA; one sister, Maxine Durst of Red Oak, IA; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harold Sheets; and one sister, Lucille Stewart.
