KEOTA- Maurine Peiffer, age 94, of Keota, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004, at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Maurine was born February 27, 1910 near South English, Iowa the daughter of Jake and Katherine (Baumert) Leinen and graduated from Keota High School in 1927. On September 4, 1935, she married Raymond Peiffer at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper. Following marriage the couple lived in the Harper area for five years and then lived and farmed northeast of Keota. Later Maurine moved into Keota and in 2002 became a resident of Maplewood Manor. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Theresa's Study Club and '76 Club. Maurine enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, traveling, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include three sons: Marlin and wife Lisette of Washington, Gary and friend Donna Ulferts of Wellman and Phil and wife Kit of Longmont, CO; one daughter Pat Freeman and husband Bob of Wellman; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond in 1962; three children in infancy: Roger, Sandra and Gregory and one brother: Orville Leinen. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Holy Trinity Parish-St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota with Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be will be at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday October 29, 2004, with an Altar and Rosary Society Rosary at 3:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota Senior Citizens Center. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is handling the arrangements.
