Mertice Miller

Mertice Ladine Miller was born August 1, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Homer and Dorothy Brenneman. On March 22, 1951 Mertice was united in marriage to Lynn Miller at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. They lived in rural Wellman for 61 years. Mertice graduated from IMS in 1949, working at Kalona Oil until March 1952. She was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where she taught in the primary Sunday school department and Bible School. Mertice was involved in Mennonite Women Ministry and worked at Crowded Closet. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. One of her greatest joys was to make peanut clusters and party mix to share with her many friends. Mertice passed away Thursday, February 5, 2026 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 95 years.

Mertice is survived by her four children; Byron (Virginia) Miller of Minatare, NE; Georgia (Mark) Gingerich of Goshen, IN; Joan (Greg) Miyauchi of Grand Lake. CO; and Tom (Michelle) Miller of Kalona; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2012, her parents, sister Ardith Brenneman in 1952, granddaughters Heather Gingerich in 1983 and Amanda Miller in 1987.

Celebration of Life service will be 10:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, rural Wellman. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.
