Merton U. Geiger, age 95, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center in North English. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Powell Funeral Home, North English, with the Rev. Michelle Williamson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the North English Library and Millersburg United Methodist Church. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Merton Ugo Geiger was born October 15, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of C. C. and Helen (Roller) Geiger. He attended country schools and graduated from North English High School in 1934. On July 30, 1940, he was united in marriage with Mildred Humphrey in Lancaster, Missouri. To this union three children were born, Richard, Douglas and Kathy. They lived all their married life in Iowa County, IA where they were engaged in farming. They retired from farming in 1979 and enjoyed traveling, dancing and spending time with family and especially grandchildren. Merton also enjoyed fishing, gardening and sharing his harvest with friends and relatives, and building and placing bluebird houses in rural areas around Iowa County. Merton passed away on April 29, 2012, at the English Valley Care Center, North English, at the age of 95 years. He is survived by his sons: Richard (Linda) Geiger of Deep River and Douglas (Kay) Geiger of North English; a daughter Kathy (Larry) Webber of Deep River; 8 grandchildren: Janet (Scott) Van Waardhuizen, Phil Geiger, Wendy (Terry) Ayers, Richelle (JimRay) Kluck, Michael (Wendy) Geiger, Duane (Shannon) Webber, Anita (Paul) Bishop and Amy (Joe) Baetsle; 21 great grandchildren; a brother Lyle Geiger of Waukee; a niece; a nephew; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred; an infant granddaughter Amy; son-in-law Ron Dye; grandson-in-law Steve Adair; and a sister-in-law Joyce Geiger.
