Michael "Mick" Lynn Dietze

Michael "Mick" Lynn Dietze, 70, of Millersburg, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Mick was born on December 13, 1955, to Vaughn "Windy" and Marietta Dietze in Sigourney Iowa. He graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School with the Class of 1974.

Throughout his career, Mick worked at Amana Refrigeration, Dietze Enterprises, Kinze Manufacturing, and completed numerous side jobs in information technology. If you had a computer problem, Mick was the one to call. He loved working on computers, solving technology issues, and introducing family and friends to the latest gadgets.

Mick spent several years living in Chicago before returning to his hometown of Millersburg in 2004, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.

In his younger years, Mick enjoyed golfing and spent many days on the course at Knoll Ridge Country Club in North English. He remained a loyal Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan throughout his life.

Those who knew Mick knew he was never one to shy away from a good debate. He enjoyed discussing current events and politics and was never afraid to speak his mind or stand up for what he believed. While some may have called it an argument, Mick simply enjoyed a spirited conversation.

One of his favorite traditions was Thursday night steak night at the Hometown Café, where he could often be found enjoying his favorite porterhouse steak. It was one of the simple pleasures he looked forward to each week.

One of Mick's proudest personal accomplishments was quitting smoking on September 26, 2006—the day his great-niece, Sadie Dobbins, was born. It was a decision he was proud of and one that reflected the importance of family in his life.

Mick is survived by his brothers, Vaughn "Breezy" Dietze Jr. and Gordon Dietze; his sister, Holly (Gerald) Greene; his goddaughter, Amber Heisdorffer; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn "Windy" and Marietta Dietze, and his sister, Judy Ritchie.

Mick will be remembered for his intelligence, his willingness to help anyone with a computer issue, his loyalty to family and friends, his love of Chicago sports, and his outspoken personality that always made conversations interesting. Whether sharing a meal, cheering on the Cubs or Bears, or engaging in a lively debate, Mick lived life on his own terms. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
