Iowa City- Michael “Mike” Bower, age 56, of Iowa City, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Chatham Oaks in Iowa City.

Mike was born February 23, 1969, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mariellen (Sieren) Bower. He grew up in the Kinross area and graduated from English Valleys High School. Mike worked as a drywall finisher for Ronnie Wade for several years. He lived in Washington for 15 years and Iowa City for the last 12 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside and was very proud of his Roman Catholic faith. Mike was a big sports enthusiast, especially football, and enjoyed walking, chewing tobacco and drinking coffee. Special thanks to Optimae in Washington, Chatham Oaks in Iowa City and his doctors at the University of Iowa who helped him through his journey.

Survivors include his parents: Charles and Mariellen Bower of Kalona; two brothers: Chris (Tammy) Bower of Iowa City and Brad (Dawn) Bower of West Branch; a sister: Patty Bower of Kalona; nieces and nephews: Bo (Rachel) Bower, Jenna (Tom) Pugh, Annie Bower (fiancé Gavin Hills) and Michael (Meagan) Johnson and great niece and nephew: Hayden and Hadley Johnson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Walter and Vida Sieren and Fred and Edith Bower.

His body has been cremated and private family services will be held at a later date.
