Mildred Mae Koenig, age 94 of Marengo, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, in Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church, Marengo with Rev. Lisa Crow officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed to Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.

Mildred is survived by her two children Allen (Julie) Koenig of Marengo and Marilyn (Jim) Freeze of Walker; eight grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one brother Donald Kahler of Brooklyn; and also a son-n-law Larry Wandling of Atlanta, Georgia. She is preceded in by her parents; husband Fred in 2006; a daughter Vivian Wandling; a sister Mary Volz; and four brothers Everett, Floyd, Ivan and Howard.

Mildred Mae Kahler, was born July 6, 1923 in rural Oxford, the daughter of Lou and Stella DeGood Kahler. She graduated from Marengo High School. She was united in marriage to Frederick Koenig on September 29, 1940 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, in Cedar Rapids. Mildred helped her husband, Fred, farm Northwest of Marengo and also helped run the family business. She enjoyed baking and cooking, reading stories to her grandchildren and polka dancing with her husband. Mildred was very devoted to her family with all their needs and loved them all very much.
