KEOTA-Margaret Nadine Greiner, age 88, of Keota, died Sunday, August 2, 2026, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Nadine was born August 17, 1937, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Catherine (Bermel) Merz. She graduated from Thornburg High School, received a Paraprofessional Teaching Certificate at University Heights in Ottumwa and further studied at William Penn College and the University of Iowa. On July 18. 1959, Nadine married Paul Greiner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in What Cheer. They lived in the Keota area, and Nadine worked for Ruth Walker before becoming a Facilitator at Serendipity Center Pre School for 29 years. Nadine was a member of Holy Trinity Parish the Altar and Rosary Society, TTT and multiple bridge clubs. She enjoyed playing basketball, playing cards, going to ball games, golfing, rollerskating, dancing, bicycling (riding RAGBRAI for 20 years), camping at the Iowa State Fair, attending Iowa Hawkeye football games and her family, especially raising their boys.
Survivors include her husband: Paul Greiner of Keota; four sons: Lindsay (Shelley) Greiner of Keota, Jay (Mary) Greiner of Williamsburg, Eric (Paula) Greiner of Keota and Christopher (Peggy) Greiner of Keota; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and two sisters: Elaine Roth of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Sara Horras of Harper. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law: Dean Horras and Charles Roth.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Fr. Robert Lathrop presiding. Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary’s Cemetery in Keota. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the church, where there will be a vigil service and rosary at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Little Eagles Daycare, Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society or Wilson Memorial Library. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Nadine and her family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
