Paul Dean Marner was born September 8, 1928 near Parnell, Iowa, the son of Willard P. and Alta Fern (Doolin) Marner. He attended Poplar Grove rural school and Parnell High School. On September 4, 1949 Paul was united in marriage to Lovina "Fern" Hochstetler at the East Union Mennonite Church. They lived in Williamsburg until 1991 when they moved to Kalona. They enjoyed wintering in Texas for 18 years. Paul farmed, worked for a Ford Implement Business, owned and operated Burg Landscaping for 30 years in Williamsburg and in his later years drove Winnebago Motor Homes all over the United States. He was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church, attended the Kalona Mennonite Church and the Kalona Coffee Club at 7:30 A.M. Paul died Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit in Iowa City at the age of 86 years.
Paul is survived by his wife Fern Hochstetler; three daughters: Bonnie (Don) Oswald of Manson, Donna (Mark) Roth of Wayland and Janet (Roger) Stutzman of Wellman; 10 grandchildren: Daniel (Andrea) Oswald, Kate (Ben) Simcox, Dean (Dana) Oswald, Renea (Neil) Reichenbach, Sarah (Joshua) Shank, Traci Roth, Isaac (Denise) Roth, Julia (Michael) McNurlen, Dale Stutzman and Corrie (Myles) Swartzentruber; 19 great grandchildren; four sisters: Helen (Keith) Erb of Glencroft, AZ, Wilma Bender of Maumee, OH, Shirley (Dan) Lehman of Walnut Creek, OH, Kathy (Lee) Swartzendruber of Glencroft, AZ; a brother: Wallace G. (Jan) Marner of Bonaparte, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Kalona Mennonite Church. Rev. Scott Swartzendruber will officiate. Burial will be in the Sharon Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, January 2, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A general memorial fund has been established.
