IOWA CITY - Pauline Swartzendruber was born January 19, 1924 in Windom, Kansas the daughter of Roy and Margaret (Kauffman) Miller. She graduated from Windom High Shcool. On May 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to Wallace G. Swartzendruber in Hutchinson, Kansas. They made their home in Wellman. In March of 1978 Wallace and their son Jon died in an airplane crash in Arizona. Pauline moved to Hesston, Kansas in 1979, she returned to Iowa in 1991 living in North Liberty, she moved to Iowa City in 1995. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pauline died suddenly on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at her home in Iowa City at the age of 85 years. Pauline is survived by 4 children - Bob Swartzendruber and wife Becky of Wellman; Sylvia Kruse and husband Harold of Parnell; Emma Werner of Iowa City; Phil Swartzendruber of Iowa City; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wallace, a son Jon, 2 brothers Waldo and Wilmer Miller, and 2 sisters Verna Detweiler and Elizabeth Hershberger. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Wellman. Pastor Michael Lynch will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona.
