Pearl Beachy was born August 25, 1917 in Seward, Nebraska the daughter of John I. and Mary Ann (Birky) Stutzman. She moved to Iowa in 1938. On April 3, 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph E. Beachy at her parents home in Milford, Nebraska. They made their home in the Wayland community for 52 years and have lived in Kalona since 2002. Pearl was a homemaker and she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church where she was active in WMSC and taught Sunday School. She has attended the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church since moving to Kalona. Pearl died on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 94 years. Pearl is survived by her husband Joseph of Kalona; four children - Karen Kropf (Richard) of Woodburn, Oregon; Ken Beachy (Nancy) of Woodburn, Oregon; Roger Beachy (Joanna) of Nordland, Washington; Linda Marner (Dale) of Kalona; a daughter-in-law Vera Beachy Sears (Steve) of Yoder, Kansas; 12 grandchildren - Kim Arredondo, Ron Kropf, Katrina Fitzpatrick, Jason Kropf, Eric Beachy, Dillon Beachy, Sara Beachy, Ryan Beachy, Micah Beachy, Traci Miller, Natalie Miller, Gina Marner; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister - Wilma Roth of Goshen, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Wayne; a brother Earl Stutzman; and five sisters - Elsie Earnest, Millie Miller, Lillie Lehman, Florence Stauffer and Doris Saltzman. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church in rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery near Wayland at a later date. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Friday at the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church where the family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for Pleasantview Home and Mennonite Disaster Service. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
