Richard Wayne Wiebold

Richard Wayne “Dick” Wiebold, age 78, of Conroy, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy, with Pastor Thomas Ogilvie officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Conroy. Visitation 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the American Lung Association or the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy.

Richard is survived by his wife Evelyn Wiebold; his children Susan (Michael) Klier of Des Moines, Cathy (Tom) Peters of Conroy, Jim (Callie) Wiebold of Conroy and Angie (Eric) Broomfield of Pittsburg, IL; nine grandchildren Cassie (Matt) DeWitt, Jacob and Nick Klier, Luke and Emma Peters, Anna and Jillian Wiebold, and Evan and Ayden Broomfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Ralph, Bob and Earl in infancy.

Richard “Dick” Wiebold was born October 18, 1939, in rural Williamsburg, the son of Arnold and Esther Schwarting Wiebold. He graduated from Conroy High School in 1957.

Dick proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves from 1957 to 1965. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Neumann on December 10, 1966 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. Dick started custom farming and hauling milk with his brother Bob. Gary Hartz and Dick started their livestock hauling business, Hartz and Wiebold, and eventually Dick owned and operated it as Dick Wiebold Trucking. Following the sale of this business, Dick worked for Holden Foundation Seeds until he retired. He was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and he served on the L.I.S. School Board. Dick was a proud resident of Conroy. He enjoyed all Conroy activities with his friends, from pitching on the slow pitch softball team to mowing yards. Dick enjoyed gardening, his flowers and trees, and feeding the squirrels and birds. Hospitality was a high priority with Dick, the door to their house was always open. He never forgot a face, a place or a story. Dick enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa State Cyclones, playing cards and working on his daily sudoku.

As a husband, father, grandfather and friend, Dick will forever be remembered and missed for his keen memory and knowledge, his honesty and loyalty, his strong faith and sense of humor, and his love of visiting and spending time with family and friends.
