Millersburg-Rita Kay Barron was born March 4, 1936 in Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Glova (Heitman) Sheda. She attended Sumner #6 School and graduated from Marengo High School. Rita was united in marriage to Gary Rathjen at Trinity United Church of Christ near Marengo in February of 1955. To this union they were blessed with three children: Steve, Sharon and Susan. They later divorced. Rita married Edwin E. Barron on February 14, 1987 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Rita worked many years at the Colony Village in Little Amana as a waitress. She never met a stranger, she enjoyed talking to whoever she met. Rita also enjoyed doing crafts, dancing, shopping, watching movies and spending time with her family. She was a very talented cook, having red velvet cake for your birthday was a must. Rita died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 75 years. She is survived by her husband of 25 years: Ed of Millersburg; her three children: Steve Rathjen of Williamsburg, Sharon (Bruce) Rowe of Dubuque and Susan (Joe ) Brause of Gilbert; 8 grandchildren: Andrew Gabriel, Amanda Finnegan, Shannon (Steven) Rathjen, Amy (Jeremy) Kaiser, Kimberly (JJ) Frahm, Joshua Brause, Chelsea Brause and Austin Brause; 4 great grandchildren: Morgan, Logan, Nyla and Connor; a brother: Don (Connie) Sheda of Cortez, FL also surviving are two step-children: Rhonda (Joel) Zieger and Lee Barron all of Billings, MT and a step grandson: Corby Barron. Rita is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Raejean Sheda and a brother Garold Sheda and her first husband Gary Rathjen. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am, Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Trinity United Church of Christ rural Marengo. Pastor Grant Speece and Pastor James Parks will officiate. Burial will be at Genoa Bluff Cemetery rural Ladora. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A general memorial has been established.
