Williamsburg-Rita Winifred Stahl was born July 29, 1933, in Millersburg, Iowa. The daughter of Myles and Blanche (Roggentine) Costello. She graduated from Millersburg High School. Rita was united in marriage to George Elmer Stahl on February 16, 1952, in Millersburg. They were blessed with eight children. Rita owned and operated the Raider Drive Inn for 26 years. She was a member of the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 Auxiliary and the Red Hats. She enjoyed going to her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, spending time with her family, square dancing, playing UNO with friends and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Rita also enjoyed volunteering at the VA Hospital and reading at the Mary Welsh Elementary. Rita passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo at the age of 91 years.
She is survived by seven children, Marsha White, Sheri (Garth) Wetjen, Gary (Judy) Stahl all of Williamsburg, Barb (Dennis) Grauer of Oxford, Lori (Tom) Beemer of Iowa City, Stuart (Pam) Stahl of Summerville, SC and Michelle (Doug) Sims of Marengo; 22 grandchildren, Carisa Driscoll, Larry Driscoll, Cameron Driscoll, Keelan Driscoll, Shawn Martinson, Corey Martinson, Nick Martinson, Vince Martinson, Felicia Stahl, Kyle Wetjen, Lee Wetjen, Jacob Stahl, Evan Stahl, Anna Boals, Aaren Grauer, Tyler Grauer, Molly Enochson, Tony Enochson, Nathan Stahl, Paige Smajlovic, Chandler Sims and Garet Sims; 36 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. She opened her home and was considered Mom and Grandma to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband George, daughter LouAnn Martinson, a son-in-law Michael White, 2 sisters Helen (Laverne) Newberry and Onie (Bob) Murtha and an infant brother Bobby.
Celebration of life gathering will be Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at St. Mary’s Hall in Williamsburg. There will be a VFW Auxiliary Service at 2:00 pm. Inurnment will be at Pilot Grove Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 Auxiliary and Camp Courageous.
