Robert Eugene Esser, age 78, of Marengo, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018, at his home. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy, with Pastor Gary Sears officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Conroy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to Essence of Life Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy.
Bob is survived by his wife Karen; four children Rinda (Scott) Wolfe, of Lady Lake, Florida, Todd (Christina) Esser, of Marengo, Kelsie (Billy) Ballard, of Marengo and Eugene Fresneda, (Mary Jo), of Spain; four grandchildren Lauren Shoup, Brandon Shoup, Taylor Shoup and Sidney Ballard; three siblings Virgie Wehr, Marion, Verna (Gordon) Goeldner, Marengo and Steve (Connie) Esser, Walford. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Lindsey Shoup and a brother-in-law Cletus Wehr.
Bob was born July 17, 1940, in Des Moines, the son of Cletus and Mildred Tedrow Esser. He graduated from North English High School in 1959. Bob joined the U.S. Army and served for two years while stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He married Karen Diane Zuber on September 28, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Conroy. They made their home in Amana for 19 years, until moving to Marengo in 1985. Bob farmed and also worked at Cherry Burrell for 30 years. He enjoyed wood working, making furniture and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.
The family extends a special thank you to Essence of Life Hospice for the excellent care received by Bob.
