South Amana- Robert George Claus Heitshusen was born October 27, 1922 near Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Martin and Evelyn Sandersfeld Heitshusen. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School. Robert was baptized in his youth and was confirmed on April 5, 1936 by Pastor Bostelmann into Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was united in marriage to Helen M. Schwarting on June 1, 1945 at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor Bostelmann. The couple lived and farmed on the family farm, where he was born, until retiring in 1986. Robert was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on the school board for 6 years. Robert died on Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a lengthy illness at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 21 days. Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; two children: Tom Heitshusen and wife Jackie of Williamsburg and Barbara Ledvina and husband Ken of South Amana; two grandchildren: Glen Heitshusen of Williamsburg and Marie Heitshusen of Grinnell; two great grandchildren: Harmony and Elisea Griggs; three sisters: Lillian Wiebold and husband Gordon of Blairstown - Laura Tschopp of Newhall and Genevieve Schumacker of Newhall; a brother-in-law Harold Schwarting and wife Shirley and a sister-in-law Helen Schwarting. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. a the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2004 from 4 to 8 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
