Robert L. Wagner, age 83 of Marengo, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, Iowa with Rev. Andrew Gray officiating. Burial will be in the Victor Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Robert’s name.

Robert is survived by his wife Jackie; four sons, Greg (Pat) of Homestead, Mark (Jane) of Hudson, Lyn (Dana) of Marengo, and Todd of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Nicholas, Lyndsey, Megan, Lacey, Levi, Carli, Kaitlyn, and Sydney; a granddog, Jasper; numerous great-grandchildren; along with numerous step grand and great grandchildren that were very important in Robert’s life. Also surviving is a sister, Naomi (Don) Schlenker of California, and two brothers, Mike (Freda) Wagnaar of California and Phillip Smith of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joan Shine Wagner, his grandson Riley Wagner, two brothers, Charlie Wagnaar and Cecil Smith, and special cousin Richard McMains.

Robert Lee Wagner was born August 29, 1934 in Lacey, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Nina Stout Wagnaar. He attended the Deep River schools. Robert and Joan Shine were married March 17, 1956. This union was blessed with four sons. She died May 8, 1973. Bob farmed with his brother-in-law Wilbur Shine. He then worked with Mel Uridil as a mechanic in Victor. On August 9, 1975, he married Jacqueline Wagner in Marengo. The couple made their home in Marengo, where Bob worked for many years with the Chevy Garage and Breezes Auto Parts. He owned and operated the Phillips 66 Station in Marengo for several years. He eventually went to work at Amana Refrigeration, retiring from there.

Bob enjoyed fishing and repurposing discarded treasures. He and Jackie enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. But his passion was woodworking. Many of his beautifully crafted items were given to his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.
