Robert "Dale" Sperry

Marengo – Robert “Dale” Sperry was born October 8, 1939, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Glen and Charlotte (Powell) Sperry. Dale was united in marriage to Virginia Floerchinger on July 26, 1956, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. He graduated from Marengo High School in 1957. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Dale worked for 45 years in the Trace Mineral Industry from 1958 to 2003 when he retired as Operations Manager. The City of Marion declared October 9, 2003, “Dale Sperry Day” to commemorate his service with Prince Agri Products. Dale enjoyed being outdoors, including hunting, fishing, golfing, mowing his yard, tending to his flower beds and feeding the birds and squirrels. Dale was always known for his big smile, quick wit and his humor, which he maintained till the end. Dale passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo, at the age of 86 years.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia; a son Corwyn (Kathleen Kelly) Sperry of LeClaire, Iowa; daughter Johnette (Daniel) Petersen of Marengo; two grandchildren, Tiffany Teggatz and Tyler Teggatz; three step-grandchildren, Kaley Petersen and Reed Petersen and Alexi Kelly; two great-granddaughters, Myah Harmon and Evalinne Teggatz; his brother, John (Jan) Sperry of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Thelma, three brothers Howard Joe, Gerald, and Willard.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo. Rev. Thomas Van Hemert will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the church before the service. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established for St. John’s Lutheran Church, Iowa County Food Bank or a charity of your choice.
